US study: kidney damage in more than a third of Corona patients in hospitals

More than a third of patients treated for coronary heart disease through a large medical system in New York have suffered severe kidney damage and about 15% need dialysis, US researchers said Thursday.

The study was conducted by a team at Northwell Health, New York State’s largest healthcare provider.

Jaffray said it may be beneficial as other hospitals face new waves of people infected with the virus, which has infected more than 4.3 million people and killed more than 295,000 worldwide.

Several groups have observed higher rates of kidney failure among Covid-19 patients. Jaffrey and her colleagues examined the medical records of 5,449 Covid-19 patients who had been hospitalized between March 1 and April 5.
