The US media reported that Democratic candidate Joe Biden won the US presidential election, at the expense of outgoing Republican President Donald Trump.

Biden received 290 votes in the electoral college, while Trump got just 214 votes, and a candidate must get 270 votes to win the race for the White House.

The US network “CNN” reported that preliminary results indicate that Joe Biden won the US presidential election after winning the state of Pennsylvania.

Joe Biden tweeted: “I am honored that I have been chosen to lead our great country.”

“The work ahead will be difficult, but I promise you this: I will be the president of all Americans, whether they vote for me or not. I will preserve the faith they place in me.”

Biden won the state of Pennsylvania, reaching 290 votes in the electoral college, surpassing the 270 votes needed to win the presidency, according to an Associated Press of America census.

Trump commented on the announcement in a statement saying that “the election has not yet been decided”, and that “Biden is in a hurry to announce his election victory without evidence and falsehood.

Trump’s legal team said: “The reviews showed that Democratic officials in Pennsylvania did not examine the vote by mail,” that “Pennsylvania’s voting method was not secure” and “some of the ballots were suspect.”
