Dr. Ahmed Karima, a professor of comparative jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University, opposed the personal status bill, noting that some of its articles “violate Islamic law”.
Ahmed Karima criticized the proposed punishment for the husband if he did not inform his wife of his marriage to another, and called for the implementation of “mercy, understanding and friendship” in the matter.
Ahmed Karima reacted with Egypt’s Channel One ninth program on Wednesday night by discussing some of the articles of the law.
He said: “The tone we have for the Egyptian people has become imprisonment, terrorism, harming and harming people. Why don’t we use weapons of mercy, understanding and friendship?”
He added excitedly: “Traffic, prison, alimony, detention. Everything is incarceration. Don’t imprison people and relax, ”he said.
And it considered that “since the 1970s, the personal state law codes that the jurisprudence of the family and inheritance sought have corrupted the Egyptian family and did not do it justice.”
He continued: “The issues of vision, custody, and alimony have strayed far from the simplicity and purity of Islamic law, so don’t blame the law, but blame yourself.”
He stressed that “only Al-Azhar is responsible for personal status because it is part of Islamic law, and the Egyptian constitution stipulates it.”
He said: “Personal status is an Islamic matter, it should be out of the reach of scholars, and it does not come out to please or imitate the West, this is contrary to Sharia and will be challenged as unconstitutional.”
And he considered that “this legislation will push people to secret marriage, secrecy, or not marry at all”, and concluded: “Islam is not despised,” as he said.
