Amid growing tension between the two sides, Armenian Foreign Minister Zahrab Manatsakyanian declared that “Azerbaijan has always threatened to use force.”

“Turkey is working to destabilize Karabakh,” Mnatsakyanian told Al-Arabiya on Sunday night.

He also added that “the Turkish intervention reinforces hostilities.”

To that, Mnatsakyanian emphasized, “We have the full capacity to defend ourselves and the Karabakh region.”

He noted: “We have repeatedly stressed the importance of the peaceful option.”

Notably, Armenia and Azerbaijan on Sunday exchanged accusations of provoking bloody clashes between the two sides in the context of a dispute over the Nagorno Karabakh region, which left 23 dead.

“Stop fighting immediately”

For his part, the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, urged Azerbaijan and Armenia to “immediately stop the fighting” in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, which has experienced the worst fighting since 2016.

A statement from the Secretary-General’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said that Guterres “strongly calls on the parties to stop the fighting immediately and begin to ease tension and return to negotiations without delay.”

The statement also indicated that Guterres intends to communicate with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, adding that “the secretary-general is deeply concerned about the recent renewal of war operations and condemn the use of force “.

To that, Guterres affirmed his support for the Minsk Group, referring to the mediation led by France, Russia and the United States, and asked the two parties to the conflict to “work closely” with these countries “for a rapid resumption of the dialogue without preconditions “.

Turkish support … and the transfer of mercenaries

It is noteworthy that, amid the tension between the two sides, Turkey announced on Sunday that it will support Baku with all its resources.

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar stated that “the greatest obstacle to peace and stability in the Caucasus is the hostile stance of Armenia, and it must immediately stop this hostility that will set the region ablaze,” as he said.

This came alongside a series of Turkish political positions and movements that showed open political support from Ankara to Baku, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan seeks to strengthen his influence in another conflict zone.
