The Washington Post reported that several prisoners at a Los Angeles prison in the United States are trying to spread the Corona virus among themselves in hopes of its prompt release.

According to provincial police chief Alex Villanueva, prisoners drink hot water from the same cup in an attempt to raise their body temperature before taking the test, which could give signs of fever.

A week after the discovery of the incident, tests showed that 21 prisoners had contracted the Corona virus.

This news comes weeks after Los Angeles County released hundreds of prisoners to reduce the prison population and help stop the spread of the new Corona virus.

Another incident took place in the same prison, documented on video, when a group of prisoners deliberately wore a mask contaminated with the virus, injuring 9 of them.

The Police Department announced that it was considering the trial of prisoners who intentionally released the coronavirus in prison.

For his part, Villanueva said: “It is very disturbing to think that people do it voluntarily for themselves in an attempt to force us to release them from custody.”

The Corona virus is reported to have tragically affected prisons in the US. A recent Marshall Project statistic discovered last month that more than 9,400 cases and more than 140 deaths have been reported among prisoners in the United States.

And the Federal Bureau of Prisons announced in late April that 70 percent of the prisoners’ tests had been positive.

In an effort to control the virus, prisons released dozens of prisoners. Los Angeles County jails have reduced the number of inmates from 17,000 to less than 12,000, and nearly 4,600 prisoners are quarantined as a precaution.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the class action lawsuit filed last month confirms that the county jail, like many systems across the country, lacks the necessary social space and remote testing of prisoners when they show symptoms.
