The official Syrian news agency “SANA” announced the death of three soldiers and the wounding of another, as a result of airstrikes launched by Israel against targets inside Syria.
The Israeli army said its fighters shelled “military targets of the Iranian Quds Force and the Syrian army” after discovering explosive devices planted near the Israeli border.
The targets included “storage facilities, headquarters and military complexes,” as well as “Syrian surface-to-air missile batteries,” according to the Israeli army statement.
SANA previously reported that Syrian air defenses intercepted what it described as “Israeli aggression.”
Israel has carried out numerous air and missile strikes against Syria since the outbreak of war in 2011, against Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces, as well as against government forces.
Israel rarely claims responsibility for the attacks, but when it does, it says it is responding to what it describes as aggression on Israeli soil.
The Israeli army said Tuesday that it had discovered explosive devices planted near the Syrian border.
According to the Israeli army statement, the explosive devices “were planted by a Syrian cell under Iranian leadership.”
Tehran is an important ally of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
In its statement, the Israeli army held the Syrian regime responsible for all acts committed from its territory and vowed to continue to act as necessary, against the Iranian position in Syria.
