Saudi team Al-Nasr snatched their qualifying card for the quarterfinals of the AFC Champions League after beating compatriot Al-Taawon 1/0 during their match today, Sunday, in the round of 16 of the tournament in the capital of Qatar, Doha.
Al-Taawon’s defeat ended Frenchman’s Patrice Carteron’s career in the AFC Champions League, after he led Al-Taawoun to qualify in the group stage.
Al-Nassr owes the credit for this victory to Abdul Razzaq Hamdallah in the 75th minute.
Al-Nasr qualified for this spot after leading Group D with 11 points from six matches, compared to 9 points for Al Sadd, 7 for Sepahan and 5 for Al Ain.
Al-Taawon rose to this spot after taking second place in Group C with 9 points from six matches, one point behind Persepolis leaders, the Iranian leader, and ahead of head-to-head matches against Al-Duhail, Qatar. , in front of the 7 points of Sharjah, UAE.
The quarterfinal draw will be held on Monday.
Qatar will host the West Asian Champions League competitions in the combined tournament system, which began on September 14 and will continue until October 3, according to the AFC’s decision for the Coronavirus pandemic.
