The Swiss judiciary cleared Qatari Al-Khulaifi of a corruption case over television broadcasting rights for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups, while France’s Falk avoided prison by obtaining a 120-day suspended sentence on a secondary charge.

The Swiss prosecutor had accused Falk of obtaining from Al-Khulaifi the exclusive use of a luxury villa on the Italian island of Sardinia, in exchange for his support of “ben Sports” to obtain the television rights for the 2026 World Cups and 2030 in the Middle East and North Africa regions, while Al-Khulaifi was charged, one of the most influential figure in football, with “inciting Falk to commit aggravated criminal mismanagement” and unfair management .

Falk and Al-Khulaifi denied in court any “corruption agreement” between them and confirmed that the matter is related to a “private” agreement that has nothing to do with the contract between “BN Sports” and “FIFA” in April. 2014.
