For his part, the engineer Nabil Al-Tibi, assistant secretary of Assiut, who went to the scene of the accident upon receiving notification in statements from “Vito”, stated that the fire was controlled by more than 15 firefighting vehicles, with the participation of the Assiut Directorate of Security and executive agencies.

The driver started the fire


The undersecretary pointed out that the driver of the car loaded with butane cylinders was behind the accident, as, while stopping on the road to the town of Jahdam due to a breakdown in the car, he set the car tire on fire to help him to light the way.

He added that “the sparks of fire from the burning tire ignited a fire in a pipe, including the rest of the pipes, and this caused successive explosions, which caused terror in the population of the area.”

Al-Tibi confirmed that the situation was brought under control only half an hour after the fire broke out, with no casualties, and that the necessary measures were taken in cooperation with all government agencies, led by Major General Essam Saad, Governor of Assiut.

He indicated that a committee is being formed, investigations with the driver are being completed and the necessary legal measures will be taken regarding the incident.
