The Italian Football League announced this Wednesday that Napoli had defeated 0-3 and deducted a point from its account, for its withdrawal from the match against Juventus in the third phase of the league after discovering two positive cases of “Covid-19” in their ranks.

The southern team complied with instructions from the Campania region health authorities not to travel to Turin on October 4 and remain in quarantine.

However, the Association’s disciplinary committee found that coach Gennaro Gattuso’s team did not follow the approved protocol for “Covid-19.”

The sports judge considered in his very detailed decision that there was no “force majeure” preventing him from going to the game.

Napoli had asked to postpone the match after putting all their players in quarantine, following instructions from local health authorities, but the League decided to keep the match date as planned.

And based on the decision of the League, Juventus rose to fourth place with seven points, while Napoli fell to eighth place with five points after winning their first two matches on the field.

Napoli may appeal the decision, having previously warned that it would take this step if the ruling was unfair.

The decision was against Napoli, as it did not comply with the protocol adopted in the Italian league, which stipulates that any team that has 13 healthy players, including a goalkeeper, can play matches. But Napoli claimed that they had complied with the order of the local health authorities after the injury of their Macedonian players Elif Elmas and Pole Piotr Zelensky, believing that they were implementing sports protocol.
