The governorate of Alexandria announces the official result of the accident of the “Mariout Lake ship”

The Alexandria Governorate Crisis Management Chamber, headed by Major General Muhammad al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, announced the official result so far of the sinking of a ship on one of the saltwater islands of Lake Mariout last night.

The camera said in a statement on Tuesday that the death toll as a result of the sinking of a tractor boat in the area of ​​Hawaria, west of Alexandria, which occurred last night, reached 9 dead, and 5 injured were transferred. to nearby hospitals. for treatment while the search for missing persons was being conducted.

And Major General Muhammad al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, until the early hours of Tuesday, with the people of the Al-Jarari area in front of the Burj Al-Arab stadium, to follow up on the work of Civil Protection and River Rescue. Forces, picking up the castaways and transporting those injured in the accident that sank a ship in Lake Mariout, which occurred last night.

The governor visited the victims of the drowning accident at the Amiriya General Hospital, in order to verify the improvement in their condition and make sure they received the necessary medical attention, and asked the injured about the need for it. quickly. .

The governor added that so far the accident has caused 9 deaths, 5 injuries and 2 survivors, and the missing persons are being registered, noting that after the accident, all interested authorities raised the level of preparedness and emergency to deal with the repercussions of the situation, and 4 rescue units were ordered to recover the shipwrecked and injured, and assign 4 hospitals in the vicinity of the incident to transfer the injured to them, and the provision of 4 relief vehicles at the scene of the accident, in addition to the presence of the Social Solidarity Directorate and all interested parties to attend to the needs immediately.

For his part, Khamis Moftah, a relative of the victims, said that all of them were from the Mutairid family of the Al-Azayem tribe, including women and children.

“Khamis” added that the victims were traveling in a motorboat which was a speedboat – bigger than a “felucca”, and yesterday afternoon they went to the island and were transported by boat in two batches to go, but the driver loaded them in one during their return, which caused the ship to sink.
