Senegal has become the first to qualify for the final phase of the African Cup of Nations football, scheduled in Cameroon in early 2022, after their precious 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau on Sunday in the fourth Group 9 round of qualifying for continental competition.
The balance of the Senegalese team, runner-up in the last version of the tournament, rose to 12 points to continue flying at the top of the group, achieving the full mark so far, after winning all four matches in their group.
The team, dubbed (Teranga Lions), is six points ahead of their closest pursuers, the Congolese national team, who visit Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), who are at the end of the standings with no points, on Monday in the same round.
On the other hand, Guinea-Bissau, which suffered its third consecutive defeat in the group, remained three points behind in third place.
Sadio Mane, the star of English club Liverpool, assumed the championship role in the match, after scoring the Senegalese team’s only goal in the 82nd minute, noting that the Guinea-Bissau team had to play with ten players from the minute 64, due to the expulsion of his player Piura for receiving the second caution.
The leaders and runners-up of each of the twelve groups are classified in the qualifying rounds of the tournament, which will take place with the participation of 24 teams.
