The Al-Mehwar Channel management issued a statement on the Supreme Media Council’s decision to suspend Osama Kamal, host of the 90-minute program, for a period of two weeks.

The statement read: “Based on the commitment of the Al-Mehwar channel, whose history spans more than 20 years, the commitment to professional values ​​and, before it, the commitment to support the leadership, government and people of its country, and to support the current and future trends of Egypt and be a shield against any medium that destroys, threatens or distorts our reality moving in the direction of construction and development, and based on that, Al-Mehwar TV confirms his response to the Supreme Media Council’s decision on respected journalist Osama Kamal.

The statement added: “Osama Kamal does not have a new face on Egyptian channels, and everyone recognizes his professionalism and commitment to the principles of the profession, which was expressed in the episode rather than the decision that is based on what he says. in his sources, which is a term that we will surely understand from the head of the Supreme Media Council by virtue of his background. The journalist … to whom we hope to review such decisions, and to whom we affirm our respect and commitment so as not to overshadow the call of the political leadership to open a free and varied dialogue on the issues of our country, as well as “constructive criticism” .

“Al-Mehwar TV will continue to be a free platform, its agenda, its homeland and its programs are at the service of its nation, and this will continue to be its message,” the statement concluded.

It should be noted that the Supreme Media Council examined the complaint filed by Telecom Egypt against the 90-minute program of the Al-Mehwar channel and the program’s host, Osama Kamal, and decided to approve the recommendations of the Complaints Committee regarding the irregularities that occurred in the November 28, 2020 episode, and suspend the host from the 90-minute show for a period of two weeks. The canal is fined 100,000 pounds.
