Spanish media reports said the 32-year-old, who only had one year left on his contract, was not part of new Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman’s plans for next season.
The Andalusian club said in a statement: "Sevilla and Barcelona have reached an agreement to transfer midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who will return to the club in a second term, after the first between January 2011 and June 2014.".

Barcelona said in a statement: “Barcelona and Seville have reached an agreement on the transfer of player Ivan Rakitic. The Andalusian team will pay Barcelona 1.5 million euros in addition to 9 million bonuses.”
Sevilla also announced the restoration of their former player, after signing a 4-year contract with the Catalan club.
The departure of the Croatian midfielder ended a 6-year winning streak with Barcelona, during which Rakitic won four titles in the Spanish League and the same in the Copa del Rey, in addition to the European Champions League and the Club World Cup once.
