The Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanum Ghebreyesus, urged the countries of the world to prepare for the next pandemic and highlighted the need for the international community to be more prepared.

“This pandemic will not be the last. History teaches us that disease outbreaks and pandemics are really a reality,” Ghebreyesus told a news conference in Geneva.

The Director General of the World Health Organization added: “At the beginning of the next pandemic, the world must be more prepared than this time.”

Ghebreyesus renewed his call to the governments of every country in the world to invest more in the public health sector.

The World Health Organization classified this outbreak as a pandemic on March 11, and the virus has so far infected some 27 million people worldwide, killing about 890,000 of them.
