In this regard, the Media Center of the Council of Ministers published a report that included infographics highlighting Egypt’s overcoming the negative effects of the Crown crisis and achieving an unprecedented unemployment rate despite the economic challenges since 2010.

The report revealed that the unemployment rate was 7.3% in the period of (July-September) in 2020, compared to 9.6% at the peak of the Crown crisis (April-June) and 7.7% before the start of the crisis (January-March) for the same year.

The report reviewed the most prominent indicators of the labor market, indicating a decrease in the number of unemployed by 19.8% in the third quarter of 2020, since 2.06 million unemployed were registered compared to 2.57 million unemployed in the second quarter of the same year.

The report noted that the unemployment rate among men reached 5.8% in the third quarter of 2020 compared to 8.5% in the second quarter of the same year, while the unemployment rate among women reached the 15.2% in the third quarter of 2020 compared to 16.2% in the second quarter of the same year. .

This occurs while the number of employed increased by 8.3%, reaching 26.11 million employees in the third quarter of 2020 compared to 24.12 million employees in the second quarter of the same year.

The report showed the relative distribution of the employed in the third quarter of 2020 according to the most important economic activities, since it reached 20.4% in agricultural and fishing activities, and attracted 281 thousand workers, and 14.2% in wholesale and retail trade, and attracted 477 thousand workers and the percentage of workers in manufacturing industries was recorded. 13.4% of the total employed, and attracted 480,000 workers.

He explained that among the reasons for the improvement in unemployment rates is the continuous implementation of about 9,000 development and service projects in various sectors, with a total cost of 2 billion pounds, until June 2021.

According to the report, the reopening of airports, the reception of tourist groups and the opening of tourist complexes in conjunction with the beginning of the decrease in the rate of injuries in July 2020 also contributed to the decrease in the unemployment rate, in addition to the continuation of the Egyptian private sector in the growth zone for the third consecutive month in November 2020, according to the Managers Index. Purchases.

He stressed that the Crown crisis and the decision to close have negatively affected the unemployment rate during the crisis, due to the suspension of sporting events, events, air traffic and technical actions, in addition to the imposition of a night curfew, as well such as the reduction of the number of employees in government departments and agencies, as well as the total closure of cafes, coffee shops, cabarets and the like. And all sports and related clubs, in the month of March, in addition to the partial closure of commercial and artisan stores and all shopping centers, as well as the closure of all restaurants and related, provided that work in them is limited to delivery services, and Coronavirus infections peaked in Egypt in June. .

The report reviewed the unemployment rate in Egypt over the past 10 years, stating that in 2019 it was 8.1% in the first quarter, 7.5% in the second quarter, 7.8% in the third quarter and 8% in the fourth quarter, while unemployment was registered in 2018. In the first quarter, 10.6%, 9.9% in the second quarter, 10% in the third quarter and 8.9% in the fourth trimester.

Unemployment was registered at 12% during the first and second quarter of 2017, 11.9% in the third quarter and 11.3% in the fourth quarter of the same year, while the unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2016 reached 12.7%, the second quarter 12.5% ​​and the third quarter. 12.6% and 12.4% in the fourth quarter.

Unemployment was recorded at 12.8% during the first, third and fourth quarters of 2015, while it reached 12.7% in the second quarter of the same year, and in 2014 unemployment rates were recorded at 13.4% in the first quarter, 13.3% in the second quarter and 13.1% in the quarter. The third and 12.9% in the fourth quarter.

Regarding unemployment rates in 2013, the report indicated that they registered 13.2% in the first quarter, 13.3% in the second quarter and 13.4% in the third and fourth quarters, while unemployment rates in 2012 they reached 12.6% in each of the first, second and twelfth quarters. 5% in the third quarter and 13% in the fourth quarter.

And 30.8% in South Africa, 12.7% in Morocco, 23.9% in Jordan, 7% in Australia and 7.1% in Indonesia.

While the unemployment rate in Russia was 6.3%, 5.3% in China, 3.1% in Japan, 14.7% in Colombia, 14.6% in Brazil, 11, 6% in Chile and 6.7% in the states.
