The Executive Director of the WHO Emergency Program, Dr. Mike Ryan, confirmed that the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) may never end.

“The emerging virus joins the mix of viruses that kill people around the world every year, and is endemic like HIV, which causes AIDS,” said the executive director of the World Organization’s emergency program on Wednesday. Health, at a press conference in Geneva.

He continued: “I don’t compare Corona and AIDS, but I think it is important to be realistic, and I believe that no one can predict when this disease will end or disappear.”

He added: “With the vaccine we can have the opportunity to get rid of this virus, but the vaccine must be available, it must be very effective and it must be available to everyone.”

More than 100 potential vaccines are being developed, many of them in clinical trials, but experts have confirmed the difficulty of finding effective vaccines against the emerging coronavirus.

Ryan noted that there are vaccines for other diseases, such as measles, that have not been completely eliminated.

“The road is in our hands and belongs to everyone and we must all contribute to stopping this pandemic,” added Tidros Adhanom Gebresos, director general of the World Health Organization.

Ryan said “very significant control” of the virus was necessary to lower the current risk assessment, which he said was still significant at “national, regional and global levels.”

Public health experts say great care is necessary to avoid new outbreaks. Ryan said opening the land border would be less dangerous than facilitating air travel, which he described as a “different challenge.”

“We need to be convinced that it will take some time to get out of this epidemic,” said Maria Van Kerkhof, a WHO epidemiologist, at a press conference.
