The Court of Cassation confirmed the aggravated prison sentence of 7 years for each of: Khaled Ahmed Abd Al-Tawab and Taher Muhammad Abu Talib, for their conviction of “killing the child Yusef Al-Arabi” in the Al-Hosari area in the city October 6.
The court convicted the defendants of possession of firearms without a license and involuntary manslaughter.
The first accused is the son of Major General Ahmed Abdel Tawab, current member of parliament for the Tamiya district in Fayoum, and secretary of the Committee on National Security and Defense.
The second accused is the son of Major General Muhammad Amin Abu Talib, former Beni Suef security director, and grandson of Sufi Abu Talib, former president of the People’s Assembly and the Republic.
The events of the incident date back to the end of July 2017, when the boy “Yusef”, accompanied by his companions, stood in front of a famous restaurant in Al Hosary square. The boy’s friends were shocked by his fall to the ground, and as a result, several passersby and visitors to the restaurant rushed to discover the matter and took the boy to the hospital. October 6, University, and it was found that he had been shot in the head, and placed in the intensive care room, in which he breathed for the last time several days later.
Marwa Kenawy, mother of the minor Yusef, expressed her joy at upholding the sentences handed down against the accused, as they are final, definitive and not subject to appeal again, noting that the families of the accused tried to reconcile with her through mediators but they refused to tolerate their son’s right.
In November 2019, the Giza Criminal Court issued its verdict to re-prosecute “Khaled Ahmed Abdel-Tawab and Taher Muhammad Abu Talib”, with five years in prison, each fined 5,000 pounds, and compelled them to pay criminal charges accusing them of killing the child Youssef Al-Arabi in the exclusive October.
The prosecution referred to the criminal court the case of the murder of “the boy Yusef”, as a result of a gunshot to the head, while he was standing in a store.
The referral decision prepared by the Prosecutor’s Office in October included the referral of 4 defendants, including two incarcerated, and two fugitives who were not detained during the investigation period, until they were completed and resolved by referral to the Criminal Court.
Investigations by the prosecution at that time revealed that among the defendants in the case were a fugitive officer and the son of a member of Parliament, and that the bullet that hit “Yusef” was fired from one of the weddings near the place of his injury, and that Al-Farah witnessed random shots from the accused who were arrested. Two of them, and a resolution was issued to arrest and bring the other two, but the security forces were unable to detain them until the case was referred to the Criminal Court.
