The “Cassation” Supports the Imprisonment of Safwat al-Sharif for 3 Years with Illegal Profit

Today, Tuesday, the Court of Cassation decided to dismiss the appeal filed by Safwat Al-Sharif, former Minister of Information, and confirmed the sentence handed down against him by the Criminal Court in the case of accusing him of bribery, and the court ordered the confiscation of the bond.

Safwat Al-Sharif arrived at the seat of the Court of Cassation at the High Court of Justice, under a heavy security guard.
The security forces had detained Safwat al-Sharif during the last session, after he surrendered himself to the judicial guards and transferred him to the Mazraa prison in Tora.
Previously, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Safwat Al-Sharif to three years in prison and fined him 99 million 49,974 pounds, for his conviction in the corruption case.
Safwat Al-Sharif had submitted a conciliation request submitted to the Illicit Profit Authority, in which he requested the resolution of the cases in which he is imputed with the State in exchange for the payment of the financial fees owed to him and set a amount of 36 million pounds, but the agency referred the students to a technical committee to examine it and estimate the value of the fees, which were estimated. It is noteworthy that the Criminal Court issued on September 9, 2018, its sentence against Safwat Al-Sharif, former head of the Shura Council, to punish him with 3 years in prison and a fine of 99 million 49 thousand 974 pounds. The crimes also ruled the innocence of his son, Ihab al-Sharif, forcing him to pay criminal expenses and forcing him to reimburse a similar sum in front of his wife and children Ihab, Ashraf and Iman Muhammad Safwat al-Sharif, to the extent that they benefited from bribery.

In the previous sessions, the defendants presented a statement indicating the resignation of 4 lands in the Fayed region, valued at 44 million pounds, in exchange for the deficit in the report of the expert committee, and indicating the issuance of unfounded decisions to initiate a case for crimes attributed to “Ashraf Safwat Al-Sharif”, with a total value of 150 One million pounds, in addition to the technical reports having concluded that the legal procedures are correct and sound in relation to the property and land owned by “Safwat Al-Sharif” and his two sons.

The Court of Cassation annulled the verdict issued for the serious crimes against the defendant with 5 years in prison and a fine of 209 million and 700 thousand pounds, by accusing him of exploiting influence and obtaining bribes, and decided to try him again before another circuit for “profit illicit”.
