The Court of Cassation, chaired by Councilor Abdullah Omar Shawda, upheld the 10-year prison sentence of an agent from the Minya Security Directorate, accusing him of killing a citizen at the Maghagha police station by firing a volley of bullets at a car in which he was traveling, injuring him without intent to kill him and forging him in evidence.

The Minya Criminal Court had sentenced Mahmoud Abdel-Hadi Baniwa Latif, the police officer, to 10 years in prison for the murder of Bayram Abdullah Muhammad Mamzouq, Maghagha Center, 2013.

Investigations by the Public Ministry indicated that the defendant fired at the victim’s car, causing the injuries described in the forensic report, and that he did not intend to kill him. However, the beating led to his death, as the defendant tried, while doing his job, to arrest the victim in an ambush at the Maghagha Center to verify his identity and those who were with him and to search the car in which he fled.
