The Al-Ahly club is demanding 50 million pounds from the Zamalek club, as a form of compensation for the damages caused by the use of the Century Club logo by the white club, which is the title that was originally officially awarded to its counterpart red from the African Football Confederation 19 years ago, specifically in 2001.
Al-Youm Al-Sabea learned that the Economic Court deliberated yesterday, Thursday, the case presented by Al-Ahly against Zamalek, and decided to postpone it until the third day of next January, at the request of Zamalek officials.
It should be noted that the Al-Ahly club previously announced its intention to file a claim for compensation before the competent courts for material damage to the club, its investments and commercial rights, as a result of the infringement of its title and slogan (Century Club), which is one of the components and elements of your investments.
Al-Ahly also revealed, through a club legal affairs memorandum submitted to the Red Board of Directors, that it added the Century Club title to its logo, and that it was registered as one of the elements and components of this motto, of in accordance with the provisions of the Intellectual Property Protection Law promulgated by Law No. 82 of 2002, and the club markets and invests it within contracts. Their sponsorship and investments, after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) approved it for the last twenty years.
Al-Ahly considers that any attempt to qualify another club for itself as the Club of the Century, in addition to being a challenge to the decisions of the relevant federations, constitutes a crime of infringement of the intellectual property rights of the Al-Ahly Club , and it is one of the crimes provided for in the aforementioned Law for the Protection of Intellectual Property that requires the sanction of the authors.
Likewise, it will not allow the usurpation of its title, which is part of its motto in any case, and will resort to all the legitimate legal means legally established to preserve its rights, and dissuade anyone who tries to violate any of the rights of the club, Therefore, the Legal Committee recommends taking the following measures:
File a complaint with the Minister of Youth and Sports to remove the reasons for the violation of the violation of the rights of the Al-Ahly Club, since it is in charge of verifying that the administrative bodies and competent authorities apply the laws, regulations and decisions that regulate them, as stipulated in article (1) of Law No. 71 of 2017 that issues the Sports Law.
2- Present an official report to the competent investigating authorities to investigate the infringement of one of the protected rights of the Al-Ahly Club stipulated in the Law for the Protection of Intellectual Property.
3- File a claim for compensation before the competent courts for the material damage caused to the Al-Ahly club, its investments and commercial rights, as a result of the infringement of its title and logo, which is one of the components and elements of its investments .
