The embassy said in a statement on Facebook on Wednesday: “The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Addis Ababa would like to clarify that as soon as the embassy learned of the incident, a diplomatic and administrative staff, including the Egyptian consul and the first Secretary of the embassy, ​​went to Bole International Airport and contacted the Egyptian citizens present. At the airport, as well as to the Ethiopian immigration authorities, to find out the reality of the situation, and to be reassured by the absence of mistreatment … and it was found that there were no violations ”.

The Egyptian embassy stated that the Egyptian citizens detained at the Ethiopian airport went to Addis Ababa with the purpose of staying 14 days in Ethiopia, and then going to the State of Kuwait, not for tourism, according to the visas they obtained from Cairo.

He added that several of these citizens had violated the quarantine instructions followed in Ethiopia in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Egyptian embassy stated that it is currently working to guarantee the rights of citizens detained at the airport and to treat them appropriately, noting that this does not deny the host country’s right to take the measures it deems necessary in case of violation of the instructions to reveal the truth. on the purpose of entering the country or the precautionary measures taken by the countries.
