An official source from the African Football Confederation (CAF) confirmed that it was impossible to postpone the Egyptian youth team’s match against their Libyan counterpart in the first round of the North African tournament.
The source, who declined to be named, in private statements in Laila Kora, indicated that there are current attempts to keep the Egyptian team in Tunisia to complete the tournament and reschedule Egypt’s clash with Libya.
And the African Union had recognized the defeat of Egypt against Libya in the confrontation that was scheduled for Tuesday, due to the lack of a quorum of “15 players” due to the large number of infections with the Corona virus.
The source said: “Postponement to another date was impossible. There is a regulation on which the African Union depends and it was necessary to make a decision about the party.”
He continued: “The new regulation that was implemented from the new season is that the team is considered a loser unless it completes its quorum in some match, which was applied to Egypt.”
He explained: “There are current attempts to complete the Egyptian team for the tournament competitions and not to withdraw from it or return to Cairo, which will be the result of the remaining results of the defamation of the last players.”
He concluded: “We are currently trying to persuade the Libyan team to reschedule the date of their match against Egypt, which was scheduled for today, and we are looking to accommodate it at the end of the tournament.”
