Police in the British city of Birmingham announced what they called a “major incident” after receiving reports that several people had been injured in stabbings on Sunday morning.
West Midlands Police said in a statement: “We can confirm that around 00:30 this morning we were called after reports of a stabbing incident in central Birmingham. Several other cases of stabbing were reported in the area little after”.
Police added: “We are aware of several injuries, but at this time we are not in a position to determine the number of injured or the severity of their injuries.”
Our correspondent indicated that the police announced the closure of some streets in the city of Birmingham due to the stabbing incidents that occurred in the early morning, and the police did not determine whether these incidents were criminal or terrorist in nature, pending the results of ongoing investigations.

The force said: “At this initial stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident.”
