On Monday, Saudi Arabia announced the dismissal of the Commander of the Joint Forces and the Emir of the Al-Jawf region, and their referral for a corruption investigation at the Defense Ministry.

This came in a royal order issued by the Saudi monarch, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

“SPA” stated that this royal order was issued on the basis of what was referred by Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, to the Supervisory and Anti-Corruption Authority.

Bin Salman’s referral included monitoring suspicious financial transactions at the Defense Ministry and requesting an investigation.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that King Salman bin Abdulaziz issued orders to exempt the deputy governor of the Al-Jawf region and several senior military and civilian officials from the Defense Ministry, in the context of suspicions of financial corruption.

The orders included terminating the service of Lieutenant General Fahd bin Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, commander of the joint forces of the Saudi-Emirati coalition in Yemen, and referring him to an investigation.

Lieutenant General Mutlaq bin Salem bin Mutlaq Al-Azima, deputy chief of staff, was assigned to carry out the job of commander of the joint forces of the Saudi-Emirati coalition in Yemen.

The royal order also relieved Prince Abdulaziz bin Fahd bin Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, deputy governor of the Al-Jouf region, from office and referred him for investigation in the same case.

The royal orders also included the exemption of four other officials from the Ministry of Defense and their referral for investigation, which will be carried out by the Control and Anti-Corruption Commission.
