After saying goodbye to the last edition in a spectacular way from the final price, the Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s English star, enters the 2020/2021 Champions League championship of the current season to continue chasing new records, either at the level of clubs or beyond at the African level.
Salah begins tonight, Wednesday, his seventh season in the Champions League, when Liverpool, champions of the 2019 edition, kick off his career in the most expensive tournament in Europe with a passionate confrontation against his Dutch host Ajax in Amsterdam, in the first day of the fourth group of the Champions League.
Salah will appear on Ajax’s face with a new “gold” shoe written on it “Salah100” next to the Egyptian flag, as it was specially designed to celebrate the achievement of reaching goal 100 in his career with Liverpool, after becoming the 17th player to make the 100th club in Reds history.
The 28-year-old is aiming to get close to the record for goals scored for an African player in the European Champions League, set for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, of Ivorian star, with 44 goals.
Mohamed Salah is third in the list of African scorers in the Champions League, with 26 goals since his first appearance in the competition in the 2013-14 season so far, with five goals in the Swiss Basel shirt, one with Roma, from Italy, and 20 with Liverpool.
As for Liverpool, Salah ranks second on Liverpool’s Champions League scorers list after scoring 20 goals in 38 games over three seasons, 10 goals ahead of legend Steven Gerrard, who holds the record 30. goals in 87 games for the Reds.
