President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi issued Republican Decree No. 168 of 2020 that declares a declared state of emergency in all parts of the country for a period of 3 months, starting on the morning of Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
The decision was based on the constitution, the penal code and the state of emergency, and given the “serious security and health conditions that the country is going through”.
The resolution obliges the armed forces and the police to take the necessary measures to face the dangers of terrorism and its financing, maintain security throughout the country and protect public and private property.
The resolution authorizes the Prime Minister in the powers of the President of the Republic stipulated in Emergency Law 162 of 1958, provided that anyone who violates the orders issued by the President of the Republic in accordance with the provisions of that law is punished with prison.
It is noteworthy that the state of emergency has been declared throughout the country since April 10, 2017, and since then it has been extended once for each declaration, after which it will be declared again in accordance with the text of the Constitution that prohibits extending the case more than once, but allows the President of the Republic to announce it again later. The period of the tide ends.
