A Christian cleric was seriously injured in a shooting in Lyon, France, according to news reports.
French police said the wounded man was an Orthodox priest, in critical health and that the attacker fled the scene.
And the French Interior Ministry published a tweet on its official Twitter account in which it said that a “serious accident” was taking place, but did not give details of what was happening.
He added that security forces were at the crash site in the 7th district of Lyon and urged people to avoid the area.
Media reports indicated that the shooting occurred as the priest was closing his church.
A police source told AFP that the attacker was armed with a short-barreled handgun and fled the scene after the attack.
The BBC could not immediately verify this information.
France is witnessing a state of security alert after two knife attacks, which it described as “terrorists”, which killed and injured several French people, including a teacher at the hands of a young Chechen and three people at the hands of a young Tunisian.
