On Wednesday, doctors at Mansoura International Hospital (New Year) managed to extract a kitchen knife with a 27 cm long sharp blade from the stomach of a young patient after he was admitted to the hospital in a dangerous condition.

A medical team led by Dr. Ihab El Desouky, the hospital’s General Surgery Consultant, managed to save the young man’s life before the knife tore through his stomach.

El-Desouki told Al-Masry Al-Youm that “the receptionists were surprised by a twenty-year-old man from one of the villages in the center of Aja, when he entered the examination and said:“ Doctor, my stomach is disrupted, I I swallowed a kitchen knife ”, stating that“ of course the words were strange because in their full consciousness and full mental strength, the hospital doctors took the case seriously.

He added: “Doctors performed X-rays, which showed what looked like a knife body in the patient’s stomach. They completed the tests and informed Dr. Ahmed Hashish, general director of the hospital, who ordered that the operating room be prepared immediately. and then called the medical team to perform the surgery.

He added: “Although we were amazed by the patient’s words, the most important thing was saving his life. We go into operations and open the patient’s stomach. We found a kitchen knife with a handle and a sharp iron blade 27 centimeters long. inside the stomach, so we extracted it amid everyone’s surprise ”. The knife pierced the stomach or caused complications for the patient that would later be difficult to correct.

And on how the patient swallowed a knife of this size, he said: “It is possible that he inserted it in the opposite direction to his mouth from the handle, and not from the iron weapon, especially since he does not suffer from any psychological problems and with full mental strength. “

For his part, Dr. Saad Makki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Dakahlia, confirmed that the patient is currently in stable condition and receives special care at the hospital, thanking the hospital medical team that saved the patient’s life.
