Real Madrid beat their guest Eibar, who is fighting for survival, when they beat them 2-0 on Saturday on Matchday 29 of the Spanish Football League.
Real Madrid managed to snatch their third consecutive victory in the League thanks to the double of Asensio (41) and Frenchman Karim Benzema (73) after two decisive passes by Brazilians Casemiro and Vinicius Junior, respectively.
Before the referee blew the final whistle, Eibar tried to score the goal of honor with a shot from inside the area by Japanese Takashi Inoui, but Real Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois blocked the ball to keep the net clean (88).
The whites missed the efforts of Belgium’s Daniel Carvajal, Sergio Ramos and Eden Hazar, while coach Zidane relied on a three-way defense with Frenchman Ferland Mendy in the left corridor, leaving compatriot Rafael Varane and the German midfielder Toni Kroos on the bench.
Real Madrid raised their score to 63 points, ahead of Barcelona, now third (62 points), three points behind the leader Atlético de Madrid, with one game less than the last two, while Eibar’s balance was temporarily frozen 23 points in penultimate position.
Real Madrid’s victory is a perfect match before their long-awaited match against Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final scheduled for Tuesday.
Zidane expressed his joy at winning, saying: “We had to make adjustments today (in the squad) and we did not suffer,” adding: “Now we have to regain strength in a very important week.”
In a match that followed, Osasuna drew at home in Getafe.
