Qatar participates in the European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup

Press reports revealed that the Qatari national team is likely to be placed in the first group of European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, which includes Ireland, Portugal, Luxembourg, Serbia and Azerbaijan.

The English newspaper “The Independent” said that Qatar will participate in the European qualifiers for the World Cup that the country hosts in two years, and will be placed in one of the groups consisting of five teams.

He added that the idea behind Qatar’s participation in the European qualifiers is to balance the groups and also give the home team the basic preparatory matches before the historic event, which is being held for the first time in the Middle East.

And according to his sources, he indicated that Qatar could be placed in one of the groups that includes five teams, namely the first, second B, fourth D and fifth E.

The newspaper pointed out that this step was taken after the negotiations between the AFC and the European Union, especially since it is not the first time this has happened, since the Qatari team participated in the Copa América 2019.

He revealed that it is unlikely that the points of the teams from the World Cup qualifier in Europe against Qatar will be counted in the group, and only the team that has a day off will be able to play a semi-competitive match instead of a friendly.
