Nader Saad, spokesman for the Egyptian cabinet, confirmed that there is no objection to granting the Egyptian Football Association an exception to hold its general assembly and elect a new board of directors.

Speaking on the Sada Al-Balad channel, Saad indicated that there must be consensus with the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) on the laws and regulations on which the elections will be held.

Saad said: “We did not discuss the Football Association elections at the Coronavirus Crisis Committee meeting today, but there was a conversation between the Sports Minister and the Prime Minister in another context.”

He continued: “I don’t think there is any problem in excluding the Football Association from the Cabinet’s decision not to hold general assemblies now, especially since the number of FIFA members is less than 100 people.”

And the Egyptian cabinet had issued the decision to stop holding general assemblies for all sports institutions and bodies until next June.

A spokesman for the ministers added: “Even if the number reaches 200, there will be no problem, but the elections must be conducted in accordance with the laws and there is compatibility with the International Federation, we do not want to damage the Egyptian ball.

He concluded: “The general assembly of the Football Association is not comparable to the general assemblies of the clubs. We work so that the elections are in accordance with the regulations and laws.”

It should be noted that the current FIFA management committee wants to hold the elections for the Egyptian Football Association before the end of next January.
