Portugal escapes the Luxembourg ambush (video)

Portugal came back from a goal to beat Luxembourg (3-1) in the match that brought them together today, Tuesday, in the third round of the European qualifying phase for the final phase of the “Qatar 2022” World Cup.

Gerson Rodríguez surprised the visitors with a goal in the 30th minute, and Portuguese forward Diogo Jota responded with the equalizer in the last minute of the first half.

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in the 51st minute and put his country ahead by scoring his second goal with a shot from inside the area, the sixth against Luxembourg and the thirty-first in the European qualifying phase for the final phase of the World Cup.

Substitute Joao Palinia finished Portugal’s hat-trick in the 80th minute of the match.

Portugal raised their score after this victory to 7 points to top the Group A list, beating Serbia on goal difference, which in turn beat their Azerbaijani host by two goals to one.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg remained in third place with 4 points, followed by Azerbaijan and Ireland, in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with no points, and each of the three teams played two games.
Qatar plays in this group, but its participation is limited only to the preparation of the World Cup, which will play its home games in the winter of 2022.
