Paris Saint-Germain called for an official investigation into Neymar’s racist abuse allegations

French club Paris Saint-Germain said it “strongly supports” its Brazilian star Neymar after he reported being subjected to racist abuse by Marseille defender Álvaro González.

The referee expelled Neymar, and four other people, red cards in a match that ended in a fight in the framework of the French League matches last Sunday.

Neymar accused, in his account on the social network, his opponent Gonzáles of racism, asking the authorities to use assistant referee video technology to verify what happened during the match.

On the other hand, the Marsella Club issued a statement denying the accusations of racism made against its defender, Álvaro González.

The Paris Saint-Germain statement stressed that “there is no place for racism in society, not in football, not in our lives.”

The French champion added, in a brief statement that he himself issued about what happened in the meeting between the two teams: “We look forward to the opening of the disciplinary committee in the French League and clarifying the facts.”

He continued: “The club makes itself available to the French League to provide the assistance it needs.”

But the Marseille statement said: “Álvaro González is not a racist, which seems to us through his daily behavior since he joined the club, and the testimony of his teammates.”

The statement warned of “serious consequences” of the publication of the telephone numbers of Gonzales and his relatives in the Brazilian media, which led them to be subjected to “constant harassment equivalent to the threat of death.”

The statement stated that the Marseille Club has always been a “symbol of anti-racism in the world of professional sports in France, which is a constant in the history of the club and in the history of the city of Marseille itself, and the positions in support of the diversity that the club assumes, in addition to its tireless fight to eliminate this scourge. “

The Marseille communiqué said: “The club’s players show this in their daily commitment on and off the pitch.”

The referee expelled Neymar, his teammates at Paris Saint-Germain Leandro Paredes and Levin Kurzawa, as well as Marseille players Jordan Amavi and Dario Bendetto, after a dispute broke out in extra time for a push from Paredes to Benedetto.

After being sent off the field, Neymar told the fourth official that he had been subjected to racist practices by Gonzales. The Brazilian forward wrote about the Marseille defender: “There is no place for insult and racism in our life. I do not agree with that. I do not respect you, you have no character.”

Gonzales denied the accusations of racism, accusing Neymar of not lacking in sportsmanship after a loss.

The French League disciplinary committee will meet next Wednesday to examine the five expulsions in the match, and will rely on the officials’ reports and the match footage to determine whether the matter requires disciplinary action or not.
