The Nasr City Misdemeanor Court, journalist Tamer Amin, was sentenced to two years in prison and a £ 50,000 bail to stop the execution, and a £ 40,000 fine as temporary civil compensation, for accusing him of insulting, defame and violate the privacy of model Mirhan Hisham Abdel Qader.

Case no. 47954 of 2019, instituted by counselor Haitham Abbas, stated that during the African Nations Championship in Cairo, some players of the Egyptian national team harassed an Egyptian model residing in the United Arab Emirates through social media.

By announcing this, she was exposed to a wave of verbal harassment, by the presenter Tamer Amin in a program broadcast on one of the channels.

The counselor Haitham Abbas instituted the fault against him on charges of insults, defamation and intimidation, until the court ruled two years in prison and a bail of 50 thousand pounds to stop the execution, and a fine of 40 thousand pounds as civil compensation temporary in favor of the model Mirhan Hisham Abdel Qader.

Councilor Haitham Abbas said that the verdict is the most severe punishment for the crime of insult and defamation, and is seen as a deterrent for the media to investigate the veracity of the accusations leveled against the people.

Abbas added, in exclusive statements to ‘Echo of the Country’, that what was done by journalist Tamer Amin was considered a full-blown crime and caused the loss of his client Mirhan Hisham Abdel Qader for his work in the United Arab Emirates and travel to the United States of America.

Abbas stressed that once the stages of the litigation are completed, a civil case will be filed before the competent court to demand from the media a large financial compensation for his client, Tamer Amin, for what he did with his client, causing him psychological problems and at her job that forced her to quit.
