Hisham Hatab, head of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, confirmed that the elections for the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Association will not take place before the end of next January.

Speaking to Ontime Sports, Hatab indicated that holding elections before the next Olympics is a violation of Egypt’s Sports Law.

Hatab said: “As long as we pass the last day last October, there will be no elections for the Football Association and FIFA cannot alter Egyptian law. This is a saying.”

He continued: “The Olympic Committee does not have the authority to annul laws after the ratification of the House of Representatives. We are in a state of law, so the elections will not be held before the end of next January.”

Ahmed Mujahid, head of the tripartite committee for the management of the Football Association, had confirmed in previous statements that he intended to hold a general assembly and elect a new board of directors for Jabalia before the end of next January.

Hatab added: “I am communicating with Ahmed Mujahid to serve the Egyptian Sports and Football Association and to achieve stability until the elections, but that is in accordance with the law.”

He concluded: “The elections have already been interrupted before, and may be postponed for the next six months, but holding elections earlier is a clear violation of the law and leads to their invalidity.”
