Smouha Club filed an official protest with the Egyptian Football Association, claiming it was a winner over Zamalek in the two teams’ match for the price of the Egyptian Cup final.
Smouha lost to Zamalek (2-1) in the round of 16 after resorting to extra time, to leave Azraq in the competition.
Smouha Club sent a letter to the Football Association to oppose the participation of the player Imam Ashour, who issued an official decision to suspend him less than 24 hours after the match between the two teams.
Smouha noted that news of Ashour’s suspension for one match spread before the two teams were faced off, considering that Zamalek knew he was suspended and yet implicated him.
Based on Smouha’s point of view, the Alexandrian club demanded that Zamalek be considered a loser because it involved Imam Ashour, who scored the tie in his net despite the suspension decision.
At the end of the statement, Smouha changed his request as a winner and offered another request to return the match due to his right to benefit from Ashour’s suspension, explaining that the player’s participation was influential because it marked the tie.
The Alexandria club indicated that it reserves all rights to appeal to all interested parties, in order to preserve the rights of the club.
