Juventus, champion of the Italian soccer league, signed Federico Chiesa, who starred alongside his rival Fiorentina, for 50 million euros, hours before the end of the transfer market, today Monday.

Juventus said it signed Italy’s Chiesa on loan for two seasons in exchange for € 10 million, with the obligation to buy after that for € 40 million, plus 10 million performance bonuses.

Although Chiesa was a fundamental player at Fiorentina, he will have to fight for his position at Juventus, in the presence of the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, the Argentine Paulo Dybala, the Spanish Álvaro Morata and the Italian Federico Bernardeschi, a former Fiorentina player.

Chiesa, 22, grew up with Fiorentina, the son of former player Enrico Chiesa, who was part of the Fiorentina team that won the club’s last major trophy at the Coppa Italia in 2001.

Chiesa began her professional career with Fiorentina in 2016, playing 153 matches, scoring 34 goals, playing 19 international matches for Italy and scoring one goal.

Chiesa became the fourth player to join Juventus during the current summer transfer period, after Brazilian midfielder Artur Melo from Barcelona, Morata, who joined Atlético Madrid, and American midfielder Weston McKinney of Schalke.
