Officially, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be part of the F1 World Championship calendar, starting in 2021.

The Saudi Arabian Sports Ministry, in cooperation with the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, announced Thursday that the city of Jeddah will host Formula 1 car racing.

Saudi Arabia’s obtaining to organize a Formula 1 tour is the culmination of Saudi political leadership under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdullah and his Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in which the country obtained the right to organize a series of important events sports.

Saudi Arabia previously hosted Spain’s Super Soccer and Italy’s Super Soccer, the FIFA Club World Handball Championship, as well as three Formula E races, which Saudi Arabia will continue to host for the next nine years.
