On Tuesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador to Beijing, Caroline Wilson, and delivered a formal protest against the recent publication of an “inappropriate” article on social media.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that a responsible employee of the ministry’s Europe department summoned Wilson, “who filed a protest in the context of posting an inappropriate special article on social media.”
The ministry stressed that the British ambassador used an official platform to express “unfair feelings of dissatisfaction” with some Western media that were included in the restrictive measures “due to the publication of false news and reports.” I have intentionally neglected the pressure exerted by other countries on the Chinese media, however.
The ministry added: “The article is full of arrogance, ideological stereotypes of the so-called teacher-professor, distortion of the facts and manipulation of double standards. Such actions are incompatible with the status of a diplomat and the missions of the diplomatic mission. “
The Chinese Foreign Ministry asked the British ambassador to reconsider her duties, recall her position and make more efforts to develop bilateral relations.
