Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernández each scored twice to defeat Leeds United’s Manchester United 6-2 at Old Trafford and advance to third place in the Premier League on Sunday.
McTominay scored twice in the first three minutes, the first with a powerful shot from outside the area, then Fernandez made it 3-0 in the 20th minute.
Victor Lindelof scored the fourth goal before Liam Cuper cut the gap with Leeds just before half-time, giving coach Marcelo Bielsa’s team some hope.
But McTominay scored the fifth goal for teammate Daniel James before Fernandez scored from the penalty spot and the score became 6-1.
Leeds closed the gap with a superb goal off Stuart Dallas’s well-rounded shot from long range.
United have 26 points, five points behind leaders Liverpool and one point behind second-placed Leicester City.
