Ahmed Al-Assar, Vice President of the Management Council of the Company of Arab Contractors and officials of various interested authorities.

The Prime Minister stated that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had commissioned the implementation of the “Julius Nyerere” dam and station construction project in the state of Tanzania at the highest level, which would express the capacity of the Egyptian contracting sector. to complete large projects with the highest quality.

Dr. Assem Al-Jazzar pointed out that the project aims to generate energy with a capacity of 2,115 megawatts, explaining that the energy generated from it will be transmitted through 400 kV lines, provided that the electrical energy that generated is combined with the public electricity grid.

He explained that the project to establish a power plant has been studied by the government of Tanzania since the 1960s of the last century, and in December 2018 the government of Tanzania awarded the contract to establish the project in a global tender to the joint Egyptian alliance. between the two companies, “Arab Contractors” and “El Sewedy Electric” at a cost. $ 2.9 billion.

Major General Mahmoud Nassar added that the “Julius Nyerere” dam controls flooding to protect the surrounding environment from the dangers of flash floods and swamps and to store around 34 billion cubic meters of water in a new lake, ensuring the permanent availability of water throughout the year for agriculture and hunting purposes, and the preservation of the surrounding wildlife in the largest nature reserve in Africa and one of the largest in the world.

He emphasized that the project consists of the main concrete body of the dam, in addition to 4 complementary dams to form the water reservoir with a capacity of 34 billion m3, two temporary dams in front and behind the main dam, and one hydroelectric power plant, explaining that a residential complex and a temporary and permanent road network will be established to serve the project area, and the establishment of a spillway. Water, a 703 m tunnel, a permanent concrete bridge and two bridges over the “Rufiji” river.

Major General Nassar noted that despite the challenges facing project implementers, who are largely represented by the occurrence of four floods from December 2019 to last March, a large part of the project could be completed, and the number The number of workers there reached 5,233 workers, including 526 Egyptian workers and 3,974 workers. Tanzania, as well as 733 foreign workers from other countries.
