French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that he is not in a position to comment on the decision of the French satirical magazine “Charlie Hebdo” to publish an insulting cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad, as Russia said today.

The French president added that his country enjoys freedom of expression and freedom of belief, but French citizens must show mutual courtesy and respect and avoid being drawn into “hate dialogue.”
French comic magazine Charlie Hebdo said on Tuesday that it will reissue insulting cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, sparking outrage in the Islamic world in 2005 and 2006.

The launch of the edition of the magazine that contains the cartoons is scheduled for Wednesday, the day on which the trial of those suspected of collaborating with the authors of the 2015 attack on the magazine’s offices will begin.

The reissue of these cartoons coincides with the start of the trial of 14 defendants in the case of the armed attack on the newspaper’s headquarters, which left 12 dead among its staff and unleashed a wave of convictions and protests.

And these controversial cartoons, when they were published for the first time 5 years ago, aroused great discontent in Muslim circles in France and around the world, and it is not ruled out that the decision to reissue them will again arouse the same sentiments.
