The opening ceremony of the 42nd session of the Cairo International Film Festival began, amid strict precautionary measures, which the festival undertakes to implement in accordance with the protocols established by the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the World Organization of Health, in order to provide a technically successful and safe session for health, in light of the confrontation that the world is waging against the Corona virus, and was The first of these measures is to provide a free pcr analysis to all invited to the opening ceremony, which takes place in the open air at the Cairo Opera House, in compliance with the decision of the Council of Ministers.

The opening ceremony saw the great writer Waheed Hamed being honored with the Golden Pyramid Award for Lifetime Achievement, which is the same award the festival bestows on British writer and director Christopher Hampton, and also honors artist Mona Zaki with the award. Faten Hamama.
