Hisham El Desouki, assistant referee for the Enppi and Ismaili match that was played on Monday, within the Egyptian We League championship, said that what was broadcast after the oil team’s goal was annulled was an involuntary act.
Desouki drew attention during the match that Enppi beat Ismaily with a goal on matchday 28 of the League Championship, after raising his flag for offside at Mohamed Sharif, the oil team player, who scored a goal in the minute 72 of the meeting.
Enppi’s players objected and Mohamed Youssef, the arena referee, used video technology to verify the validity of El Desouki’s decision.
In fact, Yusef supported his assistant’s decision and confirmed the existence of an infiltration case against Mohamed Sharif, for which the goal was annulled.
The match shot was not to annul the goal, but when the camera highlighted the tension and anxiety that appeared in the features of the assistant referee who kissed his hand after confirming the veracity of his decision.
Masrawy contacted Hisham El Desouki to ask him about the shot, to tell him: “The action came involuntarily, the rulers are under great pressure.”
He continued: “During the game, I informed the video room that there was a delay decision. I waited for the game to end and raised the flag with an infiltration case, and on reviewing it, my decision was confirmed.”
He added: “The referee can cause the relegation of a team, the dismissal of a coaching staff and perhaps a referee committee due to an unintended error in a match.”
He continued: “Sport in Egypt is very difficult. In Europe, a mistake in the match is just a mistake, but in Egypt (prudent referees bow).”
Regarding his opinion on the application of video technology, he said: “The VAR has definitely lifted a lot of pressure from the referees, but the referee remains in the focus of the match to bring it to safety.”
It is worth noting that Enppi’s victory in today’s match lifted his score to 38th point in seventh place, while Ismaili’s balance stalled at 31st point in twelfth place.
