Barcelona will face Athletic Bilbao next Sunday in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, which will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Seville.
Barcelona had qualified for the final after they managed to avoid Real Sociedad with penalties, after the original time ended in a positive draw with a goal for each team.
As for Bilbao, they managed a high-caliber surprise after they were able to beat Real Madrid and knock them out in the semifinal with two goals per goal, in a match that witnessed great refereeing controversy and much interference from video technology.
Coincidentally, Barça met the Basque club last week in the Spanish League, in a very exciting match that ended with the Catalan giants winning by 3 goals for two at San Mamés.
It should be noted that the current Bilbao coach, Marcelino, is the same one who beat Barça with Valencia in the Spanish Cup final two years ago, in a relatively unfavorable omen for coach Ronald Koeman’s squad.
