A source from the Egyptian Football Association confirmed that there is a current crisis due to the declaration of the African Union “sufficient”, by October 20, at the latest, to determine the teams participating in the continental championships of the clubs.
The source, who declined to be identified, indicated in private statements in Laila Kora that the Football Association will wait until the last minute for the specified deadline, anticipating the clarity of things before it.
CAF announced the start of receiving the names of the clubs participating in the new edition of the African Champions League and the Confederation, from today Tuesday until October 20.
The source said: “We currently have a crisis, but we will wait until October 20, as things may be clear from the previous leaderboard, and at the same time we will address enough to inquire about various issues.”
He continued: “We will present the current league position to the African Union to seek opinion on whether or not there is a solution to what we are currently in, and whether or not there is an exception for us.”
He concluded: “We want to know if there is a possibility to specify the Egyptian clubs by numbering them only when the lottery takes place and without specifying the names of the teams, or if it is necessary to determine them.”
It should be noted that Egypt had previously received an exception in the latest edition of the CAF Champions League, where the lottery was drawn with the writing of “Egypt 1, Egypt 2” instead of Al-Ahly and Zamalek until it was determined their position in participation, which also happened with Pyramids and Al-Masry in the Confederation Draw.
