Actress Keira Knightley has said she will not appear in nude scenes in male-directed movies.
In a radio interview, Knightley said: “I don’t have an absolute ban (on nudity scenes), but I do have (a ban) to some extent with men.”
“It’s part of the pride, in addition to the masculine gaze,” said the 35-year-old.
In recent years, the treatment of actors during the filming of sexual scenes has been highlighted, especially since the launch of the “MeToo” movement, which encourages the reporting of sexual harassment.
These days, many studios hire intimate scene coordinators to oversee these scenes and make sure the actors are comfortable and treated with respect during filming.
Knightley previously revealed that she had stipulated in her contracts that her films do not include nudity scenes since she became a mother in 2015.
Man ‘look’
Knightley also expressed during the interview that she has a strong desire to work with a female director if the film focuses on female experiences.
“If I’m acting in a movie about the journey of motherhood and (acceptance) of the body … it should be directed by a woman,” she said.
“If the movie is about motherhood, about the body as something exceptional, about how suddenly you start to look at your body in a different way and how it changed in a way that was not familiar to you before you became a mother, in this case Definitely I’d rather broach the subject with a woman because she understands it better. ”
“Now I feel very uncomfortable with the male gaze,” she said.
Knightley said she understood the need to shoot nudity scenes in some movies, but added: “I don’t want to participate in those horrible sex scenes while everyone is staring at you. I’m not interested in doing this.”
And he went on to say, “Despite this, some sex scenes are good in the context of the film and you need to photograph a woman who looks sexy. In this case, you can look for an actress other than me, I have pride, and I have given birth to two boys so far, so I prefer not to be naked in front of a group of men.
Previously, Knightley said that she had banned her daughter from watching Disney movies because she did not portray women in a way she did not like.
