The Governor of Kafr El-Sheikh, Major General Jamal Noureddine, announced on Monday that the number of injured due to a chlorine gas leak accident at the drinking water station, next to the Qantara bridge in Kafr El-Sheikh, has reached 55.

The governor clarified -in an official statement- that at five in the afternoon there was a gaseous chlorine leak from the Kafr El Sheikh drinking water station, near the new post, and the health and civil protection operating rooms were notified , ambulance and traffic and coordinated with the Security Directorate to deal with the crisis.

It added that traffic was transferred to the site of the leak and traffic diversions were made. In order to avoid exposing neighbors to gas inhalation, and to push ambulances through the scene of the accident to transfer those affected to the Kafr El Sheikh General Hospital and Al Obour Hospital, the maximum state of preparedness and The gas leak at the water station was controlled in 30 minutes with joint efforts from all sides.

The governor stated – in his statement – that he had been transferred to Kafr El Sheikh General Hospital; Continue treating the cases, which amounted to about 55 cases, have already been treated, and the cases are now stable and more than half of the cases have been discharged.

And Noureddine advised any citizen who volunteered; To inhale gas and feel short of breath, go immediately to the nearest hospital; To control it, and take precautionary medical measures, highlighting that the conditions are currently stable.
