Johnson & Johnson said Monday it temporarily stopped dosing as part of a Covid-19 vaccine trial after one of the participants contracted an “unexplained illness.”

The US-based pharmaceutical giant is one of many companies competing to produce the world’s first vaccine for “Covid 19”.

The company is currently in the third phase of a three-stage process to develop the vaccine clinically, and during that process, thousands of people receive the vaccine and it is tested for efficacy and safety.

Last month, Johnson & Johnson announced that 60,000 people from three continents would participate in the third phase.

In a statement issued Monday, the company stated that “even serious” diseases were “an expected part of any clinical trial” and that “the number could reasonably be expected to increase in trials with large numbers of participants.”

He also pointed out that there is a difference between the “temporary suspension of studies” instigated by the company and the “regulatory suspension” established by a health regulatory authority.

He said he has a “strong commitment” to safety and that one participant’s illness is being reviewed.
